According to Doncaster Sheffield Airport, the Majorcan city of Palma was the most popular destination among those passing through its doors last month, while Alicante came second in the list. The appeal of these destinations helped to drive up the facility’s year-on-year passenger numbers by 16 per cent during this period. Mike Morton, director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, described this as "fantastic news".
"Holidaymakers from across Yorkshire and the Humber, north Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are realising how much easier it is to fly from their local airport," he commented.
More than 109,000 people passed through the airport during 2010, which means its passenger numbers have risen for two months in succession. This comes shortly after Skyscanner named Palma and Alicante as two of the most popular destinations among Britons during June, along with Malaga and Tenerife.
